We've talked about it. We've debated and dreamed. And, finally, we've planned a C1M Academy Photo Expedition to the stunning American Southwest. As our first destination, we've chosen the picturesque vistas and majestic scale of the Grand Canyon. You don't need to be a photo enthusiast to join us, either. But maybe we'll make one of you before we're through.

February in New England can be bleak and gray. Not so in the Southwest. The blazing sun keeps February's chill at bay. And the brilliant colors of the Southwest's State and National Parks are anything but bleak. There may not be another place so spectacularly grand and vast in all of the continental US. (And then there's Las Vegas - it blazes and stuns in an entirely different, but still very entertaining way.) We'll take in all the sights, both natural and man-made, and have a blast doing it.

To prepare, you might want to rent Ocean's Eleven. (Trip does not include Julia Roberts, and casino heists are not recommended).

Sojourn in the Southwest - Photo Expedition

The Ultimate Field Trip

6 Days • 5 Nights • Stunning photos that last a lifetime

That guy on the canyon's rim could be you ...

Would you like to be part of some awesome photo shoots on location?
- Travel to the other side of the continent, sample exotic cuisines, photograph breathtaking scenery?

We may have the solution! Join us for a C1M Photo Expedition, the ultimate field trip, to experience a Sojourn in the Southwest.

We will spend 5 days exploring the sights of the American Southwest, enjoying the incredible scenery in and around some of the many State and National Parks in the area - and, of course, taking gorgeous photographs of it all. We will include sunrise and sunset shoots in the itinerary, too, ensuring ample opportunity for you capture breathtaking, once-in-a-lifetime images. These shoots are not mandatory - if there is something you'd rather do, we can accommodate that.

We are planning to rent a van that would accommodate us all, preventing losing some folks on windy roads. Seating arrangements will be dynamic.

Day 1:

Leaving Las Vegas. Drive from Las Vegas, departing around noon to Prescott, Arizona via scenic North Williamson Valley Rd. Providing we depart on time, we should be catching the sunset over scenic desert landscapes.
If we pass an In-and-Out Burger on the way, though, there will be a stop. That's just the way it has to be. You can consider that a blanket condition for days 2 through 6 as well.

Stay: Prescott, AZ

Day 2:

Leaving Prescott to go to Jerome, AZ, a ghost town with plenty of photo opportunities. Or so I hear. Traveling on to Flagstaff, AZ to check in the hotel and relax a little, time permitting. Drive to Sedona to join the Pink Jeep Tours for a Coyote Canyon sunset tour. Photographing a stunning sunset over a picturesque desert canyon landscape.  (Pink Jeep Tour is not included in the price, because we came up with that after, but felt it well worth it).

Traveling back to Flagstaff and getting ready for an early rise.

Day 3:

We'll be up and out early to catch sunrise at the Grand Canyon, and then we'll travel on to Bryce Canyon for some breathtaking photo opportunities over a very unique looking landscape.

Stay: Mesquite, NV or St. George, UT

Days 4:

Traveling to Zion National Park to photograph mountainous landscapes and wild rock formations. After, we'll head to Las Vegas and check in at our hotel.
Stay: Somewhere in Las Vegas

Days 5:

Vegas. And we all know that what happens there stays there. Let's just agree on that now. There will be optional sunrise shoot or day trips from Vegas to Red Rock Canyon and/or the Calico Desert. - Time permitting.

Stay: Somewhere in Las Vegas

Day 6:

Stay a little longer in Las Vegas and kick back some more, or travel home. We might be sun- or windburned. We might be bleary-eyed from late nights and early mornings. But we will be happy.

Fiery ...

The vivid colors and majestic rock formations of the Calico Desert make it well worth leaving Vegas for.  Even if your table is running hot. Maybe especially if your table is running hot.

Warning:

Thinking about the Southwest deserts too long may awaken the desire to rope a wild stallion and ride off into the sunset.

How to get there:

We'll be departing Las Vegas for Prescott, AZ around noon. If you wish to fly in a day or two ahead, of course, you may - I mean, there must be something you could occupy your time with in Vegas. Or, there is an early flight leaving Manchester, NH on Tuesday morning that will arrive in Las Vegas at about 11AM. We've chosen Las Vegas as our home base, rather than flying into Arizona directly, to take advantage of the much cheaper fares that are available.

But, wait, there's more:

If you sign up for this Photo Expedition we'll give you 3 months of Photo Explorers, a $450 value. If you are already a member, we'll extend your membership by 3 months. If you are traveling with someone and book double occupancy, only one of you will get the 3 months of Photo Explorers. Which one of you? We'll that's something you'll have to duke out.

Because this will be our first Photo Expedition, before the trip, we are planning to meet as a group to go through the proposed itinerary and fine-tune it together to ensure the best possible experience for all Photo Expeditioners. If anyone has any special needs or desires, this will be the time to express them. Please make sure we have your contact information so that you are kept in the loop when this planning meeting is scheduled.

If you have any questions in the meantime, you can call our office at 603.673.8200.
